One of the most striking things to me about AUstin when I first moved here was the abundance of poor and homeless individuals in the area. At almost every off ramp or stoplight in the city, you are likely to see a man, woman, or couple asking for money. What was even more peculiar to me was that they all have a sign or several signs. Most people who come upon these offramp nomads avert their eyes, pretending that they do not notice him - her - them staying their. Indeed, I often respond the same way. Occationally, however, I chanced to read their signs. I found them interesting.. some signs were appealed to the readers emotions, others were funny, and some got right to the point. I thought it would be interesting to take a day and photograph a few of these men and women with their signs.
